Irony

So this man came up and asked for the C.S. Lewis books. I pointed him toward the fantasy section, where the Narnia books and his other fiction is housed. A few minutes later he came back, explaining that he wanted the other C.S. Lewis books.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, you wanted the Christianity books?"
He wasn't sure, and asked where all the other books would be. I had assumed all his other books were in Christianity, but since he was doubtful postured that maybe some might be in philosophy, shall I look them up, since one author's books aren't all together? He said, "No, just tell me where the rest of his books are." Weeeeelll, I'm trying...
"So where are these 'Christian' books?"
"On the second floor...I'm pretty sure they're all in that section."
"But where else might his books be? I'm looking for a specific one."
Dude. Just tell me the name of the book.
"I can look up a title for you."
"The second floor, you say?"
"Well...I'm not sure what book you want?"
"I'll go up there. Maybe someone up there will know."
Le sigh.

After he left, my new co-worker turned to me, smirking, and quoted that line from Jerry Maguire: "Help me help you."

He came back later, toting Mere Christianity. And he was unsure whether that would be in the Christianity section?

"I found my book!" he said.
"In the Christianity section...?" I kept the sarcasm at bay.
"I guess you were right, but I wasn't sure where it would be, since it's about religion."
What? Like, I don't even understand his reasoning. Did I miss something? Are they not similar subjects anymore? I mean, everyone is entitled to their own beef with Christianity, but thinking that it wouldn't be with "religion"?
Once again, big sigh.

And here comes the irony:
I get home from work, sit down, and turn on the game. The camera pans the crowd and lands on...this man, with a bookstore bag between his feet. Good God.

I don't quite follow. What's the irony, exactly?

That story is funny, and the ending makes it hilarious. I love it.

the irony is that i can't even escape these people at home. perhaps it isn't irony, but it's pretty ridiculous that this man was a nuisance and then popped up on my tv screen as i was trying to forget about work.

aaah. I gotcha. As more posts have come out, I've gotten a better understanding of the content of your blog. It all makes sense now.
